We are pleased to announce our 2011/2012 Season:

Octavia

 By Curiatius Maternus

October 13 – October 31, 2011

A World Premiere of the Roman tragedy from circa 90 AD.  It is the true story of Octavia and Nero and their doomed relationship. It probably was never performed because Maternus angered the Roman Emperor Domitian for his political writings attacking the ruling class’ tyranny and was executed because of it. There is no historical or archeological record of this play ever being performed and it gives us much pleasure to present this play’s first stage production.

The Beulaville Baptist Book Club Presents:
A Bur-less-Q Nutcracker!

By Mark-Brian Sonna

November 25- December 27, 2011

This show is one of the DFW’s most popular Holiday Entertainment for adults. How popular?  Some audience members come to the theatre dressed as the characters in the play.!  If you’ve seen it, you know you’ll come back.  If you haven’t, you really have been missing out. Be sure to visit www.BurlesqueNutcracker.com to get a taste of the zaniness of the show.  So what is it about?  The Beulaville Baptist Book Club inadvertently books The Velvet Kittens Burlesque to do a fundraiser performance of the Nutcracker!

The Game of Love and Chance

By Pierre Marivaux

February 2 – February 18, 2012

Sylvia is a single young woman still living at home.  Her father thinks it’s time she considers finding a suitable man to marry.  He convinces her  to meet Dorante, a possible suitor.  Despondent that her father is trying to impose his taste of men on her, she and the house maid, Lisette,  trade places  in order to more objectively asses Dorante’s character.  Unbeknownst to her, Dorante has also traded places with his butler so as to get a better assessment of Sylvia.  What follows is a comedy of mixed up identities and employees taking advantage of their employers.  This World Premiere translation and adaptation will delight audiences with its clever and unexpected twists.

Fortune

By Bretton B. Holmes

March 22 – April 14, 2012

Roger is the estranged father to Winston.  Due to the requirements in a will left by Roger’s ex-wife who was Winston’s mother they are required to spend 7 days locked up in a house in order to inherit the fortune . If either  of them steps a foot outside the house, that person forfeits their part of the inheritance to the other. As cabin fever sets in and greed augments, family skeletons come tumbling out.  Will either man be able to put up with the other before the 7 days are up?  Will they survive?  This World Premiere black comedy explores the underside of familial bonds.  It is written by the same award winning playwright who penned Sex & War, and Homeland Insecurity, or how I learned to love the Patriot Act.  The play stars Dylan Peck as Winston, Mark-Brian Sonna as Roger and is directed by Charles Ballinger.

2 Couples 2

By Alejandro de la Costa

May 31 – June 23, 2012

Two young married couples decide to take a weekend vacation together out by a lake.  They’ve known each other since college and are best friends.  What the men don’t know is that their wives are having an affair.  What the wives don’t know is that their husbands aren’t being faithful either.  This play is inspired by the over-the-top Spanish Telenovelas and is written by our most popular and resident playwright Alejandro de la Costa.

The Importance of Being Lovely

by Alejandro de la Costa

July 19 – August 11, 2012

"Hell hath no fury like a Drag Queen Scorned." Everyone’s favorite 2nd rate Drag Queen is ready for her close up! Follow along with Lovely Uranus’ misadventures as she dispenses unsolicited advice and wrestles with her wigs, make-up, and men, while wearing 6 inch stilettos. This World Premiere promises to shock, titillate, and, of course, make you laugh. But then, what else would you expect from the demented mind of Alejandro de la Costa who penned last season’s Outrageous, Sexy, (nekkid) Romp, Adam and Eve in the Garden of Delights or Love, and Dream Café?
